Chinese Guardian lions or Fu dogs / Foo Dogs in the west, are known as the great protectors, they stand and are presented in a pair. Representation of yin and yang, the female representing yin and the male yang. The male lion has its right front paw on a ball and the female is essentially identical, but has a cub under the left paw to the male, representing the cycle of life.
The female fu lion protects those dwelling inside, while the male guards the structure. Both lions have a ball in their partially opened mouths. This represents a pearl, the pearl is carved so that it can roll about in the lion’s mouth but sized just large enough so it can never be removed.
The correct placement for feng shui of the lion’s is important. When looking at the entrance from outside the building , the male is on the right and the female is on the left.
